Mikhael Kale kicked off World Mastercard Fashion Week with an opening video set to Giorgio Moroder’s monologue from Daft Punk’s latest offering. With this video he quickly established the inspirations for what we were about to see at Mikhael Kale’s A/W15 show.... disco ,OTT Italian-style and a clever melding of inspiration past and present. Extreme beauty, 60‘s influences and a post-modern vibe are all Kale hallmarks designed to make women stand-out no matter the occasion. Having dressed stars like Beyonce, Cheryl Cole and Jennifer Lopez he’s got the haute couture meets party girl vibe down pat. Vivid colours, cutouts perfectly executed (on everything from skirts to oversize jackets) combined with beading and embroideries that could rival even the hautest of couture. The show relied heavily on technique; everything from pleated organza to allover embroidery topped with prim and proper white collars.

Pretty but provocative were the heavily embellished sheath dresses, subversive head to toe leather looks and shaggy mongolian fur in shades of lilac and tangerine. These looks are sure to turn heads on the A-list and street-style stars who are no doubt already clamoring to get orders in - not to mention several buyers we saw front row. Because beneath all the beads and dazzle were depth, a little darkness and a lot of desire.
